Melford Time has Come
May 29, 2007
Guysborough, Nova Scotia - Melford International Terminals Inc. announced its
intention to build an East Coast Gateway Container Terminal at Melford,
Guysborough County. The development will be located within the 14,500
acre Melford Industrial Park. The developers, Trident Holdings Inc.,
have brought together global partners, including Terminal Operator, SSA
Marine; Logistics Specialists, CenterPoint Properties; and Rail
America. “The Guysborough County Regional Development
Authority has
been working with the developers for the past three years,” said GCRDA
Chairman Rennie Beaver. “It is great to see the project reach a point
where the developers feel comfortable in sharing their progress with
the community and all of Nova Scotia.”
“This is a very unique project that capitalizes on
the physical assets of the Strait of Canso and changing global shipping
trends to place private sector capital investment in our community,"
said GCRDA Special Projects Manager Gordon MacDonald. "What
makes this even more rewarding is that this project has been brought
from the conceptual stage, to a project with international partners, by
a group of three Nova Scotia entrepreneurs. By working with the
Municipality this project brings us closer to realizing the potential
that the 14,500 acre Melford Industrial Park holds for Guysborough
County, the Strait of Canso region and all of Nova Scotia," said
MacDonald. The project will now enter the
pre-construction permitting phase and from there hopefully to
construction. It is expected that construction will begin in 2008 and
the facility will be operational by 2010. In addition to the container
terminal, there are also plans for a logistics park. Contact: Gordon MacDonald, Special Projects Manager - Cell: 902.863.7653
